Love, sister, it’s just a kiss away…

Things are definitely improving between my wife and I. We are communicating much better than we have in recent years and it is feeling like we are operating as a team again. The conversations aren’t always easy, but we are having them, and that is what’s important.

We have both noticed spots where we have gotten complacent with the relationship. I am not going to speak for her, but I have been actively trying to step up to show my love and appreciation more often. At one point I had the thought, “this might be the last time I get to give her a kiss,” and realized that at anytime or anyplace something could happen and whatever brief peck walking out the door would be our “last kiss.” So now we kiss longer and I do my best to convey the depth of my love for her each time – so if something terrible does happen to either of us, we had a meaningful “last kiss” and not just a quick peck on the lips.

Except at night – I will still give her a peck on her forehead or cheek as she sleeps… I’m not going to wake her up for a full smooch.

We obviously haven’t fixed everything and still have challenges to overcome, but nothing can stop us when we are working together as a team.

On to other things – tomorrow is our town’s Friends of the Library book sale, and we plan to be there when the doors open. This isn’t as big of an event as others I would attend when actively working in the book business, but we have managed to find some hidden gems. My only concern about attending the book sale is the boy.

Since the boy has opted out of participating in the household, he has also opted out of showering, and it is… noticeable. Frankly, the kid already had issues with personal hygiene – he doesn’t like to wash, wipe his ass, or brush his teeth. While I have mentioned the odoriferous state to him, he has yet to bathe. Today it will no longer be a suggestion, but a directive – shower on his own, or I’m going to have to drag him outside and hose him off.

Anyhow, I guess I better drag the pressure washer out of the conex…
