I was having a look in a book…

Just got home from the book sale – not as much to go through as last year, but still managed to find some gems. We ended up with only a single box this year, down from the four boxes last year, but did find a few obscure titles that piqued our curiosity as well as some familiar ones we added to our collection.

I did find a book about the artist Akiane that is signed by her. A quick search on AddALL for a signed first edition priced it at ~$75 – not bad for a $1 hardback from a used book sale.

My daughter is having her transplant surgery today, and at the book sale I remembered times that I would take her book scouting with me. She would ask questions and flip through books to find the copyright page to help me out.

One time, I took her to a book event for kids at Fairytale Town where they were allowed to pick out a donated children’s book. I sat and watched as she rummaged through the large piles of books until she found the one she wanted. She excitedly ran to where I was seated and showed me her pick.

“Daddy, daddy, I think this is a good one, it says ‘first edition’ on it!”

I couldn’t have been more proud at the moment. She had taken all the (likely boring) lessons and used them to pick a book. I don’t remember the title of the book, and it wasn’t particularly valuable (about ~$25) but is was still impressive to me that she had that knowledge and skill at age 8.

Anyhow, I have books to sort and some things to take care of outside…
