So as one survive another day and season…

My wife and I have been communicating much better in the last couple days than we have in quite some time. While we certainly touch on the heavy topics, we have been keeping it lighter and focusing on getting through this next week so we can fully focus on our own challenges without another human in our home. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and we will likely need at least some for of marriage counseling, but we are both on the same page and want our marriage to survive and be successful.

I can’t lie and say that nothing has changed – I’ve caught myself withdrawing a bit, and no longer have the same enthusiasm when gardening, but a bit of that is to be expected. I just need to stay on top of that and not succumb to the “doomer” mentality that could ultimately create more challenges while we are fixing things.

The whole situation isn’t helped by my health issues – my bleed has been acting up which is keeping me fatigued, and the sciatic pain has been harder to manage and control. I’m certain that at least some of the increase in sciatic leg pain is related to the stress and tension I’ve been carrying lately, and that concerns me as things will only get more stressful and tense while we work through things. I don’t want to end up in a feedback loop where the pain is making me miserable and unable to focus clearly, things end up falling through the cracks, leading to more stress and tension… etc.

I fully believe we will be able to repair things and move forward – together – but we still have a lot of work to do.

On a completely separate note, I received a call from the contractor building the plant shelf and litterbox cubby – it will be ready for install next week, and we are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday. That will be nice to have in place to help tidy up as we have estimated that ~75% of the clutter in our front room is plant related and now all that stuff will have a proper home.

Anyhow, if we are going to be having the shelves installed next week, we need to clear that space so I need to get started on that…
