What a busy weekend! We cleaned up the deck a bit (even though they are coming back to finish it this week and will make more of a mess) and I got my new grow light up and running for the seedlings. An unintended consequence I didn’t consider is just how much the sunlight that usually streamed in our front window would be reduced with the expansion of our deck and awning. I still think I want to have the plant shelf system, but it won’t get the sun I had previously planned on. I also de-thatched and reseeded the planter with the catgrass. The cats laying in it all the time managed to kill off the middle area already.
Next up will be the fencing around my raised beds – I think I’m going to use one of those cat enclosures for the fencing so it will be secure enough to allow the cats to spend some time outside within its boundaries. My only concern is that it won’t be sturdy enough to prevent a deer on a mission, but I think some reflective streamers will help keep them away and out of the garden. The cats are going to have an exciting summer this year, being able to go out on the porch and wander around the garden – it’ll be time to get some chickens soon… guess I’ll need to get a coop built.
It is an amazingly beautiful day out today – we’re sitting at about 80° with a light breeze. I can’t wait until they contractors are finished so we can put our table and chairs back up there and I can lounge on the deck do do my writing… or painting, or whatever. Lucretia was crying at me to open the window for her, so I did, but then as soon as I got up she immediately hopped into my seat and made herself comfortable. She settled in so quickly and acted like she had been napping there for hours so any observer would think that I was evicting this poor kitten from her usual resting place. She has definitely learned to weaponize her cuteness.
Anyhow, it’s too nice of a day for me to be sitting here writing – I’ve been distracted this whole time hoping to get outside, so…
