You have to let your body sleep to let your soul live on…

A dark day today, and it’s not the overcast skies. One of the great musicians of my life has passed and while I wouldn’t go so far as to call myself a big fan, his legacy and influence on the music I love is undisputed.

Ozzy Osbourne passed yesterday at 76.

Since I had been doing well with avoiding social media, I only heard from a friend who called randomly just to catch up: “Oh, did’ya hear Ozzy Osbourne just died?” And thus began my attempt to frantically look up information while on the phone.

I had gotten to (very briefly) meet Ozzy when I did the “Roadie for a Day” at Ozzfest back in 2001 and broke the cardinal rule of the crew interacting with the talent. I randomly bumped into him while he was shuffling along and gave an startled, “oh, hi!” The guy I was tagging along with (Omar, if my memory serves me) apologized with “sorry sir, he’s the Roadie for a Day winner.”

“Oh, well I hope you have fun,” he replied before shuffling off to wherever he was going. And that’s when Omar scolded me and told me to never engage the talent unless they engage me first. I did get to help prep the pyrotechnics for Black Sabbath’s show later that night, and all in all it was a great experience.

At least he gets to hang with Lemmy again…

Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Reported Photo Before His Death Is Heartbreaking – “One day before his death, the singer posted a haunting image on Instagram — a photo of a laminated poster promoting his final performance. The post now stands as an eerie farewell to a career that spanned decades.”

‘RIP Ozzy Osbourne, a true American original’: A U.S. politician just exposed himself as a fake metalhead – “Osbourne himself would have probably laughed at some suited politician making an idiot of himself while trying to praise him, so this is just another example of an out-of-touch politician frantically trying to be down with the kids (the kids in this instance being aging metalheads).”

DuckDuckGo becomes first browser to add AI image filter – “Known for its security-forward protection, DuckDuckGo has taken a strong angle on the use of AI. Most recently, this has focused in on AI images, and users can now filter out all AI art from your searches.”

‘Deeply Disturbing’ Allegations Uncovered in Bungled Organ Donation Cases – “One patient in Kentucky who was in cardiac arrest thrashed around during preparations for organ removal — and is now alive today.”

Sacramento Uses Smart Electric Meters To Spy on Residents – “For a decade, the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD) has been searching through all of its customers’ energy data, and passed on more than 33,000 tips about supposedly ‘high’ usage households to police”

Do electric vehicles make people more carsick? – “If we are accustomed to traveling in non-EVs, we are used to understanding the car’s motion based on signals such as engine revs, engine vibrations, torque, etc. Yet, traveling in an EV for the first time is a new motion environment for the brain, which needs adaptation”
