Yesterday was really, really nice – my wife was finally home after being away for a week. It was a chilly autumn day, so I built a fire in our wood stove and we mostly lounged around and enjoyed each other’s company. We don’t have any separate trips on the horizon so that was the last I’ll have to deal with for a while. We are tentatively planning to visit her family over the holidays, but that will be a trip together if we do that.
It is certainly entering the cold season here now, and I think I left the peppers I am overwintering out on the deck a bit too long. They are inside now, but are not looking well. I still need to trim them back, so hopefully they are just going dormant and will recover for next season.
Other than some indoor plant housekeeping, I’m done for the season. All my overwinters are indoors now, the raised beds are sown for the winter, and I have Toad Hollow insulated to protect it once it begins to snow. I’m a bit ahead of schedule, as last autumn I was still scrambling to get the yard torn down at this point. As I’ve been making improvements in the garden, it has become a much simpler process, so hopefully that curve continues.
Anyhow, other things to do…
