We’ll get it together and we’ll get it all done…

So today I’m actually going to talk about something I never have on this site, even though the “events” took place well before even the first incarnation of this site: I have a daughter. She is actually the reason I moved back to California and remained there, even though I had wanted out for many years. I never spoke of her on this site before for privacy reasons, and because I didn’t want her mother to have any reason to weaponize the contents. Over the years there had been a lot of drama dealing with her, and only recently did I discover the depths of manipulation she had used in the past. She’s gone now, and I have a good, strong, relationship with my daughter… and my grandkids.

That’s the main reason I’m writing about this now – my daughter has leukemia and will be needing a marrow transplant, and after that, she will need to live essentially in a clean room for a few months, and during that time my grandson (he calls me “Pappy”) may be staying with us. There are some alternative options, like me traveling and staying out there to help with the kids while she’s staying sequestered in a specially rented house, but it makes much more sense financially (and with all the summer chores) that he come out and stay here with us. While it is exciting to think of all the things we could do over the summer, I have to also admit to some nervousness.

I haven’t had to be involved with child-rearing in years. Kids today are also motivated by much different things than even when my daughter was young, and I don’t believe in using a screen as a babysitter. I also know he doesn’t much care for vegetables (something I am accustomed to as my wife eats like a picky 5-year-old) but we don’t do much in the realm of fast or junk foods.

Anyhow, other things to work out right now so…
