So yesterday’s contractor took a look at the bathroom, chuckled, and called out all the things wrong with the previous contractor’s work. Of course he asked who the previous guy was, but I told him I wouldn’t say at the time, as even though he pissed me off and I want to nail his hide to a wall, I’m going to give him a chance to make things right.
He could have gotten off easy, as my wife convinced me to just let it go and we’d get things repaired later, but he had to push. If he drops the collection attempts (we are NOT paying for the toilet lid he broke, the paint job using the wrong color paint, the “demo fee” for disposal of the trash that he left on our property for over a year) and pays for the repair, that will be the end of it for me. If he refuses, we’re going to court, and I’m going to do my best to drag the manufacturer into the mix as well, since he repeatedly claimed that poor alignment and problems were their fault. Not only will we go for the cost of the repairs, we will pursue additional damages for the year and a half he blew us off and left our bathroom in a state of disrepair, for the storage of junk on our property after being repeatedly requested to remove it, and for any and all legal fees accrued to pursue damages.
By the end of the week, three contractors will have looked over their work, and will provide estimates for what it will take to repair what he did. One has already indicated that he would be willing to come to court to testify if necessary, and I expect the other two will be willing to appear or at the least, write a letter to attest to the incompetence displayed in the work of our first contractor.
Anyhow…
