You know it’s consumerism day when your email is twice as full from all the ads sent overnight. Every year, I always get a few from companies I haven’t engaged with in years. I guess that’s the drawback of having the same email address for so long.
It’s also finally snowing! I had lightly dusted overnight the past couple nights, but it’s actually coming down now. We were under he impression that the storm would hit yesterday, but it apparently held off a day.
I tried something different yesterday – I made a vegetable stock as I was prepping and used that in lieu of water for anything that needed it (e.g. the stuffing), and it came out amazing. I put a couple cups in the bottom of the roasting pan, and the turkey came out perfectly moist and absolutely delicious. The stuffing was nearly the best ever, except that I accidentally got the “sweetened” craisins instead of just plain ol’ dried cranberries, so every few bites it’s like getting a piece of candy. It mellowed out a bit over time, but it is still noticeable, which is unfortunate. I will definitely be doing more of that and will likely start making stock more often instead of immediately composting all vegetable scraps.
My wife already tidied up the kitchen, but now I need to deal with the turkey carcass and clear some space in our refrigerator. I figure I’ll carve the rest of the turkey and prep the large pieces for sandwiches, the bits I’ll make into turkey salad, and then start making stock for turkey soup. It’s going to be turkey season for a while around here…
