Yesterday was a busy day, but I got almost everything I planned accomplished. I ran into a hiccup in town when trying to print a photo for Maynard’s urn – the photo print kiosk touchscreen was broken so they plugged a mouse into the only USB-A port available… the port I needed to plug my drive into. Well a quick trip to Radio Shack (yes, a few still exist and one is here, though it is more like a general store that sells CAT-6 by the foot as well as a bunch of other electronic parts) to pick up an $8 USB splitter and that problem was solved… until I realized how the kiosk worked.
It seems the kiosk scans the entire drive for photos, and I had grabbed the one I used most often that happened to have multiple archived websites and thousands of photos. And sorting through the image files was not very user friendly – to the point that I couldn’t even find the images I had intended to print. So I need to go back to town to take care of that… but I’ll be using a clean USB with only the photos I want to print. The kiosk also has a WiFi connect option, but the security on my phone made it really difficult to use and I couldn’t access the photos I wanted to print because of that. I could have turned off all that but I tend to not rawdog unfamiliar networks with that phone.
While at the store, I also ran into a neighbor and mentioned the kitten, mostly looking for confirmation on where we believed she originated. Well, it turned out he was missing a black kitten that another neighbor had given to him to be an outside “barn cat.” My heart sank, but he told the story: he had her for about an hour until she escaped from his garage where he was acclimating her to her new environment, so she had been surviving on her own for at least a couple weeks before arriving on our doorstep. He had thought the worse and was glad that we had found her and took her in, and was happy to let her be an indoor cat with us.
On the way home, I stopped off at the neighbor where she was born to let them know that she was safe and to find out more about her. It turns out the vet was spot on – 10 weeks old. I also found out that she was the only surviving kitten from the litter, but was slated to be an outdoor cat because she was pretty mean. I don’t know the feline environment where she was born, but she’s been nothing but a lover here – except early in the morning when she wakes and wants her special kitten food.
The other things I had to take care of were part of something for my wife, so I’m not going to talk about that right now.
I do have a few projects I need to finish up while my wife is still away – currently the kitchen is a mess of plants, pots, and other miscellaneous gardening related things. I need to wrap up all those things and clean up the kitchen before my wife’s return.
I guess I had better get to it then…
