Well, the biennial “Most Important Election of Our Lifetime™” is over – how’d you do? Not surprisingly, none of the partisan race candidates I selected won – no “R” or “D” next to their name, though one Independent did well in their senate race. The non-partisan candidates I voted for all won, and the amendments and initiative passed.
I am disappointed about one contest – my friend lost her race for State Senator. This was the one race I would have voted for a duopoly candidate had I been in her district. It seems even here in pretty damn red Montana, the so-called “blue wave” caused some casualties.
In years past, I would have followed the election results carefully, spreadsheet open and taking notes. Since giving up the last of my social media, I really didn’t care that much. Instead of watching the results live, I played the new Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Central Park DLC and then watched TV with my wife. It was nice and much less stressful – I think I’ll stick to this strategy in upcoming election years.
I do have some concerns about the results, however. While I’m glad the people rebuked the current administration and its practices, I’m worried that the swing of support will give the Democrats the false belief of a mandate – that they are free to do whatever they want to further their own authoritarian goals. I believe the reality is that the voters did what most voters do – they voted against Trump and the Republicans, not for the Democrats. When the shifts are this great, the pendulum tends to swing hard, and that is worrisome. Better get your suppressors and SBRs now – I fully expect a new (and larger) tax to be introduced in January.
And now for something completely different (and not election related)…
We had our first birds show up at our feeding station today! Well, it was likely yesterday, but we didn’t see any birds ourselves until today. Lucretia woke us chattering in the window today and I peeked out to see a couple birds munching away. She did the same thing yesterday, but when I looked out then, I didn’t see anything. Hopefully, the birds will all discover and frequent it this winter, giving us (and the cats) something to watch out the window.
I also made stew yesterday – just in time for it to warm up and get sunny. It had been pretty dreary over the weekend and Monday, so I thought it was time. I started it early yesterday morning to slow cook (and make the house smell amazing) all day. By the time I finished my morning routines, it had warmed up to around 60°. When it got to about 68°, we opened up the front door to air out the house. Today the weather is about the same, and we again have the front door opened for air-flow.
That’s about all on my mind for now. I have a few things around here I want to take care of while it’s sunny so I’d better get to it…
