We had a much needed storm last night – the rain was perfect, though I could’ve done without all the wind. All the plants seem to have survived, though the tomatoes were all leaning over and several peppers seem pretty bent and unhappy. It being much cooler today, the toads are also out and enjoying the humidity and moisture from the storm.
We tend to get storms her often – in the evening as it begins to cool, the wind will pick up and we’ll experience a thunderstorm as the warm air rises and hits the cooler atmosphere. Usually they are pretty brief, but yesterday’s storm was strong enough to to prompt an NOAA alert push notification on our phones. We didn’t have a major power outage, but there were enough interruptions to cause me grief during gaming night.
Since it had sufficiently cooled outside enough to open the doors and windows (well, not the windows because of the sideways rain) the cats got to go out on the deck for the first time in nearly a week. Even with the noise from the thunder and rain, they hung out and enjoyed the fresh air and chasing whatever bugs that had managed to infiltrate their way into the screened area.
I fixed the cat door this morning so we can now lock it closed, so we can keep the cats secured in the house overnight and leave the front door open to let the cool air in. Outside the storms, the night breeze is usually pretty light, so we don’t get as much airflow as we did before screening in the porch, but even the reduced airflow helps cool the house tremendously.
Since we had a good rain, I don’t need to water anything today, but I think I’m going to go outside and enjoy the cooler weather, and maybe paint a bit…
