I’m digging in the dirt…

Lucretia has found a new hobby – playing and digging in the planters. Doesn’t matter if there are plants there that she ends up tossing about, nor if there are the sticky gnat traps, she wants to dig. She had first started with a planter I am growing galangal in, but I covered up almost every visible inch of soil with different things, so she moved to the aloe vera. I had a large and lovely mother going great that had spawned many babies that have their own pots. A while back I noticed the mother didn’t seem to be doing that well, and what I thought might be the need for a soil change turned out to just be a cat laying on it and flattening it.

Now she is stepping up the shenanigans. My wife had to repot a succulent recently and she pulled that bag down from my plant table and spilled soil on the floor to play in. Then this morning she ripped into an unopened bag of worm castings I had just purchased to play in that. It seems she still has many of her outdoor tendencies, though the digging does not seem to be anything related to litterbox use – she’s not digging in the dirt for a new place to poop, she just likes playing in soil.

This year, instead of the narrow window box I usually use for catgrass, I think I’m going to use a larger tray so she (and the others – Pearl quite enjoyed sitting in the grass) have a bit of “outside” to interact with. I may also just get one of those pre-fab catios for them to have some secured outside time while I decide where and how I want to build the permanent one, since the previously planned location is now where the toads spend the summer.

I need to get moving, I had planned to do it over the weekend but since the bag has been opened and I don’t just want to throw out the worm castings, I need to do the soil amendments for the indoor plants.
