By the time I got the fire going yesterday, the snow was mostly melted, the road was completely clear, as were the pavers, and cars. It was still chilly, probably around 40°, but I can’t say for sure as we lost our thermometer in the last windstorm. It snowed again overnight, but like yesterday, the snow is already mostly gone. There’s still some on the insulated grass and in shady spots, but it’s not sticking around long. I really wish we were able to get the compost down before this happened as I’d have liked for the melt to have run through the compost and helped drag nutrients into the ground, but I’ll still get that accomplished with tilling and manual watering.
We are also shuffling some of our projects and priorities, and with the global uncertainty and climbing energy prices, we are going to prioritize our energy independence and get solar and wind power generators. I’m a little bummed that this will push my greenhouse project back further, but on the other hand, if we are able to go completely self sufficient with power, we won’t have to pay to re-route the incoming power lines and can just have them disconnected. Currently, the main power line runs right through the property and spans an area where I want to put in a pond, and the line from the transformer to the house runs right where I want to dig out the greenhouse. When I initially asked about moving the main power line, I was told it would likely cost around $30k to have it done. When installing the new system, I’ll make sure that no power lines are encroaching on areas i want to dig, and hopefully, we will be able to just completely disconnect the power coming in (though I will likely still want to re-route it so we have if available even if we don’t use it).
