The rain letting up yesterday wasn’t really long enough to get anything done outside, but today should be dry all day. This morning I met with a local teen and their parent about taking over mowing, and I think this is who we will be working with moving forward. They had posted a notice at the supermarket looking for lawn jobs over the summer, and I have become more interested in helping the local youth with these sort of things rather than a company that I will need to compete for scheduling – I had been trying to get our mow scheduled for over a month and a half. I’m thinking a biweekly schedule will be about perfect.
Hopefully today we can get the Hügelkultur mound started – I want to get the shape framed out so I can start planning the other elements. I have a couple Japanese Kawara roof tiles coming so I can use them to calculate the size and design the “wishing well” roof that will be nestled next to the mound. I’ll also need to figure out just how I will be routing power to that spot to run the pump; I may try a small solar setup, but would have to figure out where to place the panels – if I’m going to need to dig trenches to run lines, I may as well just run the power off our main system.
Anyhow, my wife just returned from town and the boy and I have some projects to get started on…
