Her holy open book, a world revealed to see…

My wife and I spent most of the weekend going through the many boxes of books I had stored, and this still was just a fraction of the total books I had when I was previously running a bookstore. Many others were damaged when my storage unit flooded. I had a very nice leatherbound set of the 11th edition of Encyclopedia Britannica that I lost because of that.

One of the other things I did back then was sell books by the foot – the cheap books that nobody really wanted, but I had them sorted by the color of their spine and sold them by the foot to people who wanted to stage bookcases. Many of those customers were real estate agents, and one was a photography studio. Those books are long gone, but it was a way to get rid of inventory that I didn’t want to keep around.

This project, however, was to sort out the books we wanted to keep and the ones we were going to sell. I do have to say that many of the books I previously had in my inventory got pulled by my wife to keep, much of them from the same collection I had acquired many years ago that belonged to a psychology professor. The “to sell” books were also further sorted into groups to research and price (or books I had priced 20 years ago and wanted to reevaluate and reprice) and books to be sold when/if we open a retail store.

While my specialty was, and likely will remain, books on the occult, metaphysics, and topics like that, a friend of mine who had stayed active in the field this whole time is managing an estate and said he might have an opportunity for us to buy a bunch of old books on previous wars, military, guns, etc. It would likely be a good field to have on hand if we are going to be selling here in Montana. I should also ask him for recommendations on the software to use as mine is WAY out of date and likely won’t function with the automatic uploading to the seller sites any longer. I looked into a new license for it, and they no longer sell licenses like that – they only do monthly subscriptions.

Anyhow, tomorrow I doubt I’ll be posting because it’s my birthday and we are going to the city. Gonna do some book scouting, hit a few pawn shops, and go to dinner.
