In my dreams there’s a song I once knew…

Over the past week, I haven’t had the same inspiration to write, and I think it is because of how I’m currently using my brain. The video game that I play just released new content a couple days ago so for the past week, I had been playing more to prepare for the new content, and then through the new content. I’m not about to say that video games are bad for us, but what exactly are they doing?

I’m not going to delve into the content of the games themselves (though the one I’m playing is a shooter/looter) but that most any sort of game content can alter how one’s brain operates. The game I’m playing is relatively fast paced so it requires my brain to be operating in a similar manner to be effective in play. Keep your brain operating that way until it is time for bed and you’ll lay there with your brain still in overdrive. I hasn’t helped that it doesn’t get dark until close to 9PM around here and I’m usually busy outside until close to then so I haven’t been starting until later in the evening and therefore ending later (and closer to bedtime) when I do play. Couple that with already having an overactive brain and that gives me a timeline of about 2-3 hours for things to slow down enough to be able to sleep and restore my creative functions.

I know, I know, “garbage in, garbage out,” but it’s nice to take a break and do something fun for myself – and I know after maybe another week of this, I’ll be back to one night a week again… if even that.

What it really comes down to is moderation. While I have always had some difficulty sleeping because of my “usual” brain activity, adding the gaming variable seems to rev it up a bit more and make it more difficult to sleep, thereby justifying caffeine in the morning, and creating a cyclic scenario where ultimately I lose out on the rest I need to think as clearly as I prefer.

So play your video games, just do so in moderation and not so late.

Want to cut through small talk? They were designed to spark curiosity and elicit a response. She calls them ‘magical questions.'”

‘Just Move Out of Our Country’: Racists Unleash Hate on Black College Graduate for Her Refusal to Stand for National Anthem In Viral Video – There is a big difference between this and Kaepernik; this is a new college graduate expressing her opinion during her graduation while Kaepernick was a sports team employee who used the national stage provided by his employment to make a statement during a professional event. While I can understand people taking offense to her actions, this is a perfect example of her exercising her rights.

Thomas Massie Suggests Returning to Spending Levels From Just Five Minutes Ago; Republicans Denounce Him as Lunatic Extremist – “At the time of Massie’s suggestion, the federal government was spending an estimated $14 billion per minute, including $9 billion on things no one could quite explain, $2 million on surprise diversity audits, and $600,000 to rename the Department of Agriculture’s Wellness Wing after a retiring lobbyist’s cat.” Parody, but amusing…

David Hogg caught on camera saying Jill Biden’s chief of staff essentially ran the White House – “House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer also listed Bernal as a top person of interest in the House investigation into how aides may have used the autopen to sign executive orders and pardons.”

Dave Mustaine On MetallicA: ‘I Wrote A Lot Of Their Music That Made Them’ – “You listen to the riffs, you know they’re my riffs. It’s, like, you think I’m gonna all of a sudden hear my riff and say, ‘That’s not me.’ So, yeah, I wrote a lot of their music that made them, and all the solos on that first record were mine”

The Privacy Challenges of Emerging Personalized AI Services – “This model can reason across your whole context and do it efficiently. And every conversation you’ve ever had in your life, every book you’ve ever read, every email you’ve ever read, everything you’ve ever looked at is in there, plus connected to all your data from other sources. And your life just keeps appending to the context.”
