I’m cooking something new for dinner tonight. There was a place I used to frequent when I lived in the Seattle area called Ram Restaurant & Brewery that had this great shrimp dish, and tonight I’m going to try to recreate it. It’s a spicier, Cajun version of shrimp alfredo served with focaccia bread. I mixed the dough yesterday and let it slow rise overnight in the fridge. This is my first attempt at focaccia (and from scratch alfredo) so it will be a bit of an experiment. I do need to run to town to pick up a baking stone. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them at the hardware store, but I’ll figure something out if they don’t have them.
I’ve also been experimenting a bit with vegan cooking. Not for me, I’m still a die-hard carnivore, but for friends. My vegan friends from LA may be visiting Montana and since cooking is my “love language” I want to be able to prepare something for them. The vegan taco I tried at brunch was surprisingly good – even better than the chicken one I had. The experimentation has gone pretty well since mushrooms seem to be used as a meat substitute and I love mushrooms, but I need to find a good gravy recipe – and something that can be substituted for steak.
Anyhow, I need to run to town (fingers crossed I’m remembering right) and then get cooking…
