To be disciplined to be free, the paradox of philosophy…

93 – it is the third and final day for those who celebrate.

I am now officially out of basil seed, which tells me I’ll need to let a couple go to seed this year so I can keep this up. In my head I was thinking that it would be nice to be able to give away a basil with every tomato plant, but I don’t have the space setup for it yet and I ran out of seed and barely filled the 72 planter cells I had.

I still need to get other seed started, but need to get more of those compressed peat pods that expand when you soak them in water. I thought I had a large bag of them, but then remembered (after tearing apart the shed, digging through boxes of plant stuff, and finding nothing) that I used them all up last year and never ordered more. My wife had run to town earlier today for her workout and stopped at the hardware store to pick some up for me, but only got a small pack of 25, so I’ll still need to make a run down there for more.

The contractor that will be building my plant shelving system called today and will be by this afternoon to take measurements and dial in exactly what we want. This makes me hopeful that he will be able to get this done sooner than expected – he had previously told me that it would likely be June before he had the time. Now I’m trying to not get too excited, because he also told me he’d come out as soon as time freed up to allow so he would work on things in down time, but I can still hold on to hope that this project will be done before all the seedlings need to be transplanted into full size pots and the plant explosion takes over our entire entry and kitchen. The shelves should be able to accommodate 18 trays, and at 12 pots per tray, that will be 216 of the plants, leaving just a few other trays to find places for. I’ll probably just leave my plant table up for another season – my wife won’t be as pleased, but it would still be much better than last season where I had to bring in additional tables to put the plants.

I never got to the emails yesterday, as the plant stuff still took a long time, but I guess I can tackle that this weekend.

Anyhow, I need to get moving and run to town…
