The missing key to unlock my mind’s door…

Most of the stuff on the task list for the contractor is done, though they need to come back next week to finish up a couple small things, and next month to address the door. Turns out none of the home improvement shops in the city keep security doors on hand in white so we need to order one in, and the soonest one would arrive would be the end of the month.

My wife is an avid journaler – she has been writing practically daily since her teens and was one of the inspirations for this reboot. But a big difference is that she keeps it with her and will write snippets throughout the day as well as longer compositions whenever she feels like it. That’s one reason I’ve also started writing more in a notepad as well – when I have an glimmer of inspiration I try to scribble it down as quickly as possible. Those thoughts rarely make it here, mainly because I’m not referencing the notepad (or anything) whenever I sit down to type. I’ve thought about getting one of those digital notepads – the ones that would try to turn my chicken scratches into printed text – but I like the old-school analog feel of pencil and paper.

I didn’t reboot the site with any intentions other than just an outlet to write and to focus on output rather than the constant stream of input in today’s society. The site grew pretty large even without any real promotion and advertising, though these days you need to jump through hoops to get “the algorithm” to notice you. I’m still not going to do that. I don’t care about that sort of “internet popularity” and, frankly, my life isn’t as exciting and interesting as it was in my youth. I’m not dating a bunch of different girls (I’m quite happy with the one who agreed to marry me and kept me pass the return date), I’m not throwing parties every month (I’m much more content being home with my wife and cats, or kicking back with a couple friends), and I’m not going on wild adventures seeking adrenaline (the broken body can’t handle things like skydiving or backpacking anymore).

Overall though, I do think that the site reboot has made some positive changes in my life. I’m writing more, which was the main point, and even though there are days where I don’t feel like writing anything, even typing out a quick paragraph puts my brain into a better headspace.

And on that note…
