His brain is squirmin’ like a toad…

Since we didn’t have to come up with things to keep the boy entertained, our weekend was pretty relaxed. I had some maintenance projects I needed to work on but that didn’t take a lot of time so we were able to use the remaining of the time to decompress and catch up on needed rest.

We had a pretty powerful windstorm blow through (and I received multiple “Thunderstorm Warning” alerts on my phone) that took out one of our patio screens so I had to repair that, and ended up taking a small chunk of fingertip when my finger slipped on a screw. Other than the fact that it is right where I would use it to fret my guitar, it is a minor injury – more annoying than anything.

The evening rains were enough that I didn’t have to do much plant maintenance, but they did seem to enjoy the fresh rain water and I have a lot of new growth that I need to prune. The rainstorm was also heavy enough that it washed out some of the toad tunnels, and I ended up rescuing a bunch of the little guys out of the barren egress window well that is in my office. I think I’m going to clean that up and add some decent soil and plants so it is more habitable for them there. If anything, it will give me a nicer view outside my office window, instead of a barren patch of dirt. I’ll need to figure out something for the water, since the spigot there is only softened water.

We are firmly in toad season, and there are about a dozen known medium-sized toads around – some in Toad Hollow and some cruising around the garden. I miss seeing the mass of all the small toads, but these bigger ones are still entertaining and enjoyable to watch, particularly when they are stalking a bug.

Anyhow, it is lunch time and I still need to do some garden work…
