I’m all cleaned up and my chores are all done…

Late to write today, but I was pretty productive already, and now I’m slowing down to make sure I don’t push too hard so that physically I’m miserable tomorrow when I have to run to the city. I did realize, however, that I had my wife’s return date wrong and I do only need to make one trip to the city to pick both her and my grandson up, so that is a bit of a relief. But over yesterday and today I did knock out several of the projects I needed to:

  • Install key-locking knob on closet
  • Move workstation PCs to new location
  • Prep bathroom for child
  • Wash and prepare bedding
  • Wash and clean Jeep (cleaned – grandson said he liked the muddy look)
  • Respond to emails!
  • Get tub measurements for bottom plate (if arrives in time)
  • Find vendor in city to source tub bottom plate
  • Finish and assemble hydro tower and strawberry planter
  • Get pump and tubing for hydroponic strawberry planter
  • Finish transplanting and plant spinach and carrots
  • Build stands for grow bags

I did also get most of the hydro strawberry planter done, but need to get the pump and tubing before finalizing the build. I got the tables build for my grow bags and started to fill them but realized I needed more soil – unfortunately the soil I have been using (and strongly prefer – NuLife Organic Potting Mix) is sold out at my local hardware store, and their affiliate in the city. I called several other places in the city to see if they carried it but it seems nobody does – so I called the manufacturer to see if they could tell me where it is stocked. They were super helpful and are tracking down a last lead, but right now the only place they could say had it is about a 5 hour drive away from me so my fingers are crossed that she will be able to pull off a miracle for me and I’ll be able to get some soon. I also learned that the wholesale cost is under $5 per bag, and I could buy wholesale if I pick up an entire pallet of 50 bags. If I want it delivered I would need to order a truck, which is 20 pallets which is a bit overkill for what I’m doing. Perhaps I could work something out to piggyback on the order the local hardware store.

I also decided against using the plastic for the bottom plate in the grow tubs – because of the current world events our Dear Leader and Best Ally dragged us into, petroleum products are already rising – it would have cost me $200 to have 4 24″ circles cut to be the bottom plate. I’m going to use scrap wood instead – I’ll need to replace it in a couple years, but hopefully by then we will be out of this mess.

Tomorrow, we are going to the city so I can drop my wife off at the airport for her trip, and then I need to take care of some things as well:

  • Get haircut (a lot of them actually – appointment set)
  • Ninja Costco run (just picking up a couple things for the week)
  • Home Depot run
    • Pump
    • Drip irrigation tubing and parts
    • Key-locking door handle
  • Pawn Shop stop for TV (Roku TV stopped working and will need one for the boy)
  • Nursery stop for soil… maybe.
  • Walmart if I can’t find a suitable TV at the pawn shop

We are already discussing another run to the city soon to do our main shopping run, and to hit Costco and Walmart, but we wanted to wait until the boy is here so we can fill in anything we missed in preparation for his arrival.

I need to wind down a bit and take a muscle relaxant, but before I do, an update on the plant giveaway:

Over the weekend we gave away all but three trays of plants we had set aside, and yesterday my wife took the last three trays to the food bank and the rest were scooped up quickly. I need to take counts before we start giving them away next time, but we were close to 250 plants this year!

Anyhow, it’s late and I have some things to do…
