Skipped yesterday because I had other things going on – the contractor is finally “done” with out bathroom project but there are still issues. The paint he used was off color as he chose to NOT use the supply of paint we had saved for touch-ups (nor consult the mix to get it accurate). There are also spots that were not painted properly so show streaks of white from under the paint. The alcove is crooked and leaning forward so the shelves are practically worthless.
But on to all the Libertarian Party bullshit.
So we had out state convention over the weekend and what a waste of time and money. The board is completely fine with violating its own bylaws to further cement their control. I was ready to walk away from the party completely but I was unfortunately elected to the board. I could have (or should have?) declined the nomination but I had told a few people that I would serve if elected so now I’m stuck, at least for a little while.
That said, I know the board is in for some challenges – I know of someone going to media outlets to report some shady practices related to previous articles, I know they are reporting the party to the FEC, and I know they are also filing a lawsuit against the party. I kinda want to stick around to watch the fireworks, but I’m not willing to risk my own personal assets because the board is shady and still hasn’t gotten board insurance (though looking into it, it really wouldn’t protect them much because they seem so unwilling to follow their bylaws and does not cover “wrongful acts”).
So I’m currently in somewhat of a holding pattern. I don’t want to work with any of these people, nor do I want to put energy and effort into an organization that no longer aligns with my beliefs. Part of me wants to right the ship, but part of me wants to just walk away. I do like knowing the shady shit that happens behind the scenes – on the first day of having my party email there were several motions put forward that really should be handled at a meeting to address some questions and answers. But is it worth my own sanity to stay, just to shine light on their shadows?
I don’t know yet, I will need to think about it.
