Another short one today – we have some last minute stuff to do before company arrives, and I now also need to squeeze in plant triage since it appears the deer came through last night.
I’ve tried all sorts of things to keep them away, but the repellents don’t seem to work well enough to save my garden so it seems I’m going to have to put a fence up. Last year, they hit me the night before I planned to harvest all my tomatoes – the day prior I had decided to harvest and make a batch of gazpacho and even went to town to pick up the ingredients I was lacking. The deer had other plans, however, and came through that night and cleared everything out – leaving me three ripe tomatoes out of the 20-30 I had on the vine the day before.
So today will be assessing what plants are savable (they seem to have really liked all my peppers) and clearing out whatever isn’t. We’ve been pretty lenient with the deer, watching them graze on the grass around the house, but it might be time to start scaring them off so they don’t see us as just friendly observers any longer – it is time to show them that we are the apex predators around here.

A Party in Peril: Inside the Libertarian Scandal That’s Dividing a Movement – “The Libertarian Party, the third-largest political party in the nation and long praised for its devotion to transparency and ethics, is now confronting an internal scandal that has exposed hidden finances, factional maneuvering, and broken promises at the highest level. A sharply critical 94-page report by the Libertarian National Committee’s Special Investigatory Committee (SIC), supported by whistleblower documentation from journalist Jake Porter, finds that former chair Angela McArdle orchestrated a covert financial scheme that funneled large sums of donor money to entities linked to her domestic partner, Austin Padgett. In a last-minute resolution, the LNC declared her “unfit to serve” and formally banned her from holding any future roles within the party.”
