I’m paying for yesterday, but it isn’t nearly as bad as things could have been if I hadn’t taken precautions. My back is tight and sore, which is irritating my nerve pain, but it’s certainly less than it could be. I took my muscle relaxant last night and I’m fairly sure that proactive move is paying off today.
I caved and tried some of the tsukemono pickles yesterday – much sooner than I really should have, but they were perfect. Nice and crisp, the only thing to make them better would be waiting to let the flavors set. In a couple weeks, the chili peppers and garlic will permeate the pickles and give them a bit more punch. I’m disappointed that my first batch came out mushy, but I wouldn’t have had a place to store that many jars in the fridge anyway. At least I learned the process, and can refine it as I keep canning produce.
The weather is changing and I’m concerned I won’t get any San Marzano tomatoes. There are about ten fruit on the vines right now, but none have started ripening yet. It is particularly frustrating because I had plans to use all of them to make sauce to can and use over the winter. That damn heat-wave screwed me this year – I need to have shades prepared for next season, just in case.
Anyhow, I need to deal with Amazon over a missing order and make an appointment to get my hair cut…
