Like never miss your birthday…

When I was younger I always looked forward to my birthday – I think most everyone did. These days, however, it’s just adding +1 to a number and new aches and pains. That said, yesterday was a pretty good day. We went to the city for dinner and it was much better then last year. This time we tried a Japanese hibachi place and both of us had a great time, though we did opt out of catching food in our mouths.

After dining, we had a nice conversation with the owner. I had asked about traditional sushi and he explained that most people don’t want that, nor understand what it really is. Everyone wants rolls drenched in Sriracha mayo or something they can take a photo of “for the ‘gram.” It doesn’t make business sense for them to buy product for something they don’t sell regularly.

At least he agreed with me that all these oddball rolls may taste good, but they aren’t true sushi.

We also stopped at the pawn shop and ended up grabbing a portable Victrola turntable. I already have a nice Bang & Olufson, but need to get a new receiver/amp and speakers to use it. The one we picked up has built in speakers and can run off battery power if so inclined.

I’m currently writing this while sitting at the auto shop waiting for them to finish fixing my Jeep. It feels quite different to be composing all this on my phone rather than laptop. I could have (and should have) brought my laptop, but I have a few other errands to run and didn’t want to deal with it.

They are now done, so…
