Skipped writing yesterday – we had to run to the city and just didn’t have the time… anything interesting happen over the weekend?
Well, we all know that the US is now at war with Iran. It’s been simmering for some time, and frankly I’m over all the international geopolitical bullshit – can we not stop meddling in the affairs of other sovereign nations?
“But we have to do something – 75% of Iranians want regime change!”
No, we don’t – oh wait, of course we do because it isn’t about the Iranian people, it’s about supporting Israel (and mainly Bibi) in the quest to dominate the entire region. Sure, some 2000 year-old book said that’s where they were told by “God” to settle and make their home. And yes, other books say different things, but this one is special because 28.8% of the world population believes (and claims to follow) it.
The reality is that they need this because the empire depends on war. War is what drives the economy and we all know that our glorious leader wants to be known as wealthy and powerful, so we absolutely must have a strong economy. Maybe that’s why he had such a boner for the Nobel Peace Prize this last time around – he knew what he was planning and knew he’d never receive one (at least from the Nobel committee) after the attack.

It is safe to say that most people (at least in the US) have not experienced the atrocities of war. Most of the talking heads on TV (and social media) babble on about how good this will be for the region and the world, but they’d shit their collective drawers if it was happening in their neighborhood. The politicians aren’t the ones dying, nor are their own children; they can send other’s to do the dirty work for them – it is an acceptable risk after all.
Now years ago I did have a completely different mindset about war (hell, I would have been in the military at the time had I not been colorblind and been dropped from the Navy’s Divefarer program). After 9/11 I too bought into the lies and was gung-ho about obliterating our enemies, but I paid attention to what was happening behind the scenes and realized just how much we were being lied to. I saw how the PATRIOT Act was being used illegally on citizens and how quickly we were losing our rights. I expect this issue with Iran to be the “emergency” necessary for the government to federalize the elections, you know, to combat terrorism and keep you safe, not because they know our President’s approval rating has tanked and that if they have control they can manipulate the data to achieve the results they want.
“I regard it as completely unimportant who in the party will vote and how, but it is extremely important who will count the votes and how.” – Joseph Stalin (as relayed by Boris Bazhanov, his personal secretary)
This is what happens when I allow myself to consume media related to current events. War is portrayed as glamorous, and sacrificing yourself at the altar of the war machine is seen as heroic – it is not.
