Yesterday was a pretty chill day – I sequestered myself with Lucretia to keep her company and she napped near me all afternoon. Pearl did as well, but she’s not recovering from surgery, she’s just a princess who likes to nap all day – especially in my wife’s spot on the bed. Roscoe happily stayed out front, enjoying the sun spots and soaking up all the attention from my wife; he’s a momma’s boy. Lucretia seems like she’s feeling better today, but still has difficulty getting around a bit. My wife moved some things around to giver her steps up and down from the bed that she uses as she is still reluctant to jump up and down from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since it’s been fairly warm and the snow is gone, I had planned to stake out where I plan to put the trees today, but the wind arrived overnight and boy did it arrive. When I get around to our power generation, I definitely need to consider wind power as well as solar. So that’s not happening today, but since I’ll likely be outside when the landscaping team is here, I’m planning to do it then. Besides, I also realized I need to run to the hardware store in town to pick up some stakes anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once I have all that laid out, I will need to talk to my neighbor and schedule borrowing their backhoe to get holes dug for the trees. I’ve been told that the best way to get them established here is to do just that – dig a much larger hole than necessary for the tree, loosen and amend the soil, then refill the hole with the softer amended soil. We have a lot of clay up here and it’s hard enough to dig by hand, let alone have a weakened transplanted tree try to push weak, young roots through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyhow, my wife decided to join me keeping Lucretia (and Pearl) company today so…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
