Yesterday was successful – even though I was a bad husband and didn’t have everything worked out ahead of time as previously planned, we ended up going to the city and having a fun evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Driving down to the city was a bit frustrating – my windshield got chipped by a rock along the way, and it was close to closing time for all the glass shops. We didn’t have a lot of time with a planned stop and reservations for dinner, but I really didn’t want to have to drive all the way down again for a 20 minute fix, plus the longer you wait on repairing rock chips in glass, the more noticeable it will be after repair (dust and dirt collect in the chip hole) and there’s also the increased opportunity for it to form a crack and run, especially in the heat of summer. We stopped at a shop along our route, but they said they were booked for the day and wanted me to schedule an appointment today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That wasn’t happening so we just proceeded with the other stops before dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dinner was pretty damn amazing – we went to a Brazilian steakhouse, our first time trying that style, and had a great time. Usually when you go to dinner, you have a good 20-30 minute wait until you are eating – not so in a place like this. As the hostess was explaining the system (with these coins you flip when you are ready for more or want to wait) she flipped ours to indicate we were ready for more meat, and a wandering “meat minstrel” stopped by and was slicing away. I would have thought a restaurant like this would want to give you a few minutes to fill up on the salad bar (which is always a trap!), but no – we had meat being sliced for us before we even understood the system and what all was going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I really liked being able to have a variety of different meats instead of just a single cut of something like when you order at a traditional steakhouse. Everything was delicious, and they even had some more “exotic” meats in sausages – alligator, wild boar, elk, and rattlesnake. They also served things like frog legs, chicken hearts, and roasted pineapple. The only real drawback was that the beef cuts were all a bit rarer than my body likes to process, so there were times I had to wait for them to have a piece cooked a bit more thoroughly – while I personally prefer my beef to be medium-rare, my body doesn’t care for anything cooked less than medium to medium-well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After sitting there for about 2 hours and enduring the meat sweats<\/a>, we left for home, though I was still a bit frustrated about the rock chip in my windshield. But in what could be a textbook example of serendipity, we happened to pass a mobile glass repair vehicle, called him, and he followed us into a parking lot where he repaired my windshield on the spot.
